Hello everyone!
My good friend Akos is experiencing a Hostboard glitch currently and will probably not be able to access Hostboard for a few days. This problem has been experienced by several people in the past, inculding myself. However, Akos has a question/problem hes been going crazy over for a while, so hes asked me to forward it to you guys.
Heres the message!

Okay, so Wiseman (or anyone else) I have a small problem with Trillian. About the icons. I can set any picture I want as my buddy icon/avatar, from any folder from any drive or HDD, but I can't set the icons I download from www.badassbuddy.com It's weird, because I could set these on my mom's PC, but now I can't. although, if I copy the icon to my desktop, from there I can set it. But ONLY from my desktop, and this problem is only on with these icons. Do you have any idea what's wrong with Trillian or whatever? only can't set it from the my documents folder, and folders from inside my docs


Please send Akos an IM and try and help the poor guy out.

Um... I'm kind of confused. Who wrote that post? Whose realname was Akos?

Anyways, if you have problems accessing Hostboard try using a proxy like Proxify to see if it's something to do with DNS updates, or try asking at the adminsitrative boards. Sadly I don't know what could be causing this (it's a pretty normal website and webserver, should work anywhere), I haven't experienced the problem myself, and I couldn't get detailed information or clues to find the cause and a possible workaround. However, if you need help, I'll try my best. I'd need to know:

- Country
- Type of Internet access (like: 56Kbps modem, ADSL, cable, satellite, etc.)
- Operating system and version
- Browser and version
- Which plugins and toolbars are you using
- Do you have a firewall in software or hardware?
- Do you have web filtering software or hardware?
- Do you have this problem with any other websites? If so, please list.
- I'd need a copy of your hosts file (WinNT/2K/XP/2003: C:\&lt;windows_directory&gt;\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\ hosts ; Win9X/ME: C:\&lt;windows_directory&gt;\hosts ; Unix: /etc/hosts ).

Also, do/check the following:
- Use Mozilla or Mozilla FireFox ( http://www.mozilla.org )
- Update and run Ad-aware and Spybot or TWO other anti-spyware programs
- Update and run an anti-virus
- Do not use browser toolbars or useless plugins

On the Trillian problem: The files from that site seem to be normal GIF files with fairly normal names, so I don't know why could this happen, but it's most likely a bug in Trillian. Will .GIF files from other websites work?

Sorry Wiseman, I forgot a lot of folks don't know his name. Anyways, heres an update from the man himself...

Dreamer Hyper: I got in with Proxify, ofcourse I can't log in thus I can't post, because no interactive action is allowed without paying to proxify =/ But at least I can keep track of thing this way... so:

Country: Hungary
Internet Access: Cable
Op System and Version: Windows XP Home
Browser: Mozilla Firefox 1.0
No Plugin, No Toolbar
No Firewall nor webfiltering in software or hardware
I only have this problem with Hostboard. (Hostboard.com, and the forums between it.)
I can send you if you get online on AIM or MSN...

I use Mozilla Firefox
Ran all spyware adware programs, found nothing
I have no toolbar nor plugin.

Still, I can't put on badassbuddy icons, if they are inside the My Documents folder...

I see. And HK can access the site normally using your same ISP, right?

Try the following:

1. Clear your browser cache
2. Go to the cookies manager, and delete all of your www.hostboard.com cookies
3. Restart the browser
4. Access http://www.hostboard.com first


As for the badassbuddy icons, like I said, do you experiment this problem with GIF files from other sites too? There's little special in baddassbuddy's files. Besides, the fact it works in one folder but doesn't in others points in the Trillian bug direction.

Um... help? Everytime I turn the CPU on, all of hte viruses ad crap come right back...

I really hope I can connect today evening tho, or at least tomorrow... if not, then it's a more serious problem than just a Hostboard bug...

And about Trillian, it very well could be a bug also, since I can set any type of images from anywhere, but these badass buddy icons.

My friend is experiencing some problems with his MSN. It keeps signing off, and before he reinstalled it, it just started to send files to people he talks to (me), also when he tried to set a wallpaper, msn just sent the picture to em, like it's gone crazy and controls itself. I guess it's an MSN virus of somesort, but virus scanner/ad-aware found nothing.
He now reinstalled the 7.0 (beta) version, before he had the 6.2, but this problem occured in both versions. Any ideas what this could be?
